Strategic Gold Corporation was founded in September of 2009 but the roots of our corporate history can be traced back several decades to the 1970s when the principals of our family office first recognized that gold is a vital component of a balanced portfolio during both bull and bear market cycles.
Over the years, we have provided innovative leadership in the creation and administration of precious metals based products. Each of our offerings has been designed with a solutions oriented architecture to meet the changing needs of our investors. As a next-generation product offering, Strategic Gold is preceded by the Anchor Gold and Currency Trust and Universal Gold Limited.
Anchor Gold and Currency Trust
In the early 1980s we established a family of mutual funds under the name of the Anchor funds. Among these was the Anchor Gold & Currency Trust. This fund focused on precious metals and currencies to include the ownership of gold and silver bullion, mining shares and other precious metals related securities. It was offered to investors within the construct of a U.S. Registered Investment Company. During the 1980s, the Anchor Gold and Currency Trust traded on the Midwest Stock Exchange.
Universal Gold Limited
Universal Gold Ltd. was created in 1990, (prior to the creation of any exchange traded gold funds) to provide an efficient vehicle by which our clients (primarily a large European institution) could allocate gold in a number of investment structures.
Since 1990, Universal Gold has offered investors a cost efficient and secure way to own uncompromised gold bullion. The company was created to provide investors with a means of participating in the gold bullion market without the necessity of taking physical delivery of gold, and to buy and sell that participation through equity ownership. Each share represents a pro rata interest in the unencumbered, allocated and specific gold bullion holdings of the Company.
From its inception, Universal Gold Limited was incorporated as an International Business Company registered within the Territory of the British Virgin Islands and the physical bullion holdings of the Company were stored in the vaults of The Bank of Nova Scotia, Toronto, Canada. The relationship with the Bank of Nova Scotia that began at this time with Universal Gold Ltd. continues to this day with both Universal Gold and Strategic Gold Corporation.
For over 10 years, the company was listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. In 2002, the owners voluntarily de-listed the company electing to maintain it as a closely-held private corporation.
Strategic Gold Corporation
In September 2009, Strategic was founded with the primary objective to preserve the purchasing power of our clients’ assets and position them for profit in the event of systemic disruptions.
Our extensive experience in the industry has taught us that in a rapidly changing financial environment, higher risk paper alternatives are no substitute for the real wealth protection and appreciation that only physical ownership of gold and silver can provide. The vast majority of investor capital remains concentrated in financial instruments within a highly correlated system that is vulnerable to unforeseen disruptions. Traditional asset allocation models do not account for new systemic risks since they do not acknowledge the fact that systemic risk cannot be insured within the system. To protect capital, prudent portfolio allocation demands for the inclusion of assets that are not correlated to traditional financial instruments and do not rely on financial counterparties.
The Strategic Gold Clear Title Account Program addresses specific regulatory needs of domestic investors in light of The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (“FATCA”). Uniquely suited for today’s financial conditions, we created the Strategic Gold Clear Title Program to provide a distinctively advantageous platform through which investors can purchase, sell and store investment grade gold and silver bullion.
The Clear Title Account Program has robust fiduciary controls and reporting capabilities that parallel those of mainstream financial assets.
